Here is How to Get You Started
If you aren’t in a Keeper or Dynasty
League; then you are missing the essence of fantasy football. Fantasy Football
is where egotistical know-it-alls get an opportunity to role play as a general
manager and compete against their other makeshift GM buddies. Your Fantasy
league should allow you the opportunity to act as much like a GM as possible in
order to keep you engaged.
How many times do you show up to a
draft, you have the other nerds with their faces buried in their outdated draft
magazine or the top of their head protruding above their laptop so that they
can hang on every single word that Matthew Berry sputters? You select a number
out of a hat to determine your draft position…and based on that one number you
can pretty much determine who will end up on your fantasy team for the entire
16 rounds. This draft is presumably taking place on Groundhog Day.
The redraft-snake system is based largely
off of luck in regards to who ends up on your team. Because yes Jackass,
everyone has read the same rankings as you and has listened to the same damn
podcast. You have zero Intel and your “sleepers” are wide-awake, get over
yourself. Redraft-Snake-Leagues get very monotonous, offer no long-term
commitment, and lead to a very dull off-season.
When you account into the equation
variables such as; there is a 99% percent chance a Cowboy fan will draft Tony
Romo in the first round. There is a 83% chance that a Niner Fan will draft Michael
Crabtree in the 5th round despite his Achilles injury… then you can
pretty much predict the outcome of the entire draft even before it
starts.
Here is the Mongoose to your Snake Problem:
Keeper League: You should start with an Auction Draft for the initial year. Make sure all owners are
aware beforehand that the league has transformed into a Keeper or Dynasty
league so that they can draft accordingly.
After the season has ended, and you
crowned your champion…then Bam! Next year’s strategic planning already begins!
You get to follow your keepers through the off-season to see if they get
traded, hurt in the preseason, holdout on a contract, get a stud rookie drafted
in front of them, get arrested for beating their wife while on bath-salts and
have to miss the ENTIRE first game because of it.
We recommend: start with a basic set-up and then evolve
into a more complex league. Here is a recommended format to get your boring-ass
league transformed into something more intense: 12 owners.
o 3 Keepers (Mandatory): Each team will be able to carry over 3 of
their players on to the next year. The strategic part is all 3 players must be
3 different positions. (To prevent the RB monopolist of the world)
o 1 Rookie Keeper (Optional): Each
owner has the option of carrying over/keeping a rookie who was on their team
the previous year and forfeiting there Round 13 draft pick. Or they can elect not to keep a
rookie and maintain their 13th round draft pick.
o Pre-Draft Trades: Owners may trade
players and /or Draft Picks prior to the draft.
· Note: Any players traded, will automatically
become that teams keeper players, and cannot be traded again until after the
draft.
o Day of Draft: All Teams must announce
who their keepers are going to be prior to the start of the draft.
o The Draft: Use Snake Draft, Last Place picks first. To
prevent teams from sandbagging to get the number 1 overall pick, you penalize
the teams that finish in the bottom 3 with a monetary fine ($20).
o Free Agency/Waiver Wire: Blind Auction Bidding
