Scoring System: Taming your Quarterbacks points and the PPR debate

2 Scoring Adjustments your League Should Make

Quarterback Scoring:
When Quarterbacks score twice as many points as the rest of the positions, it dissolves strategy.
Look at it this way:  If every QB that started….got an automatic 1000 points for sticking his hands under the centers perineum, what would that do to their value versus the other positions?  Fantasy Football shouldn’t be a collection of 1-man-teams! We spend all of this time researching “sleepers” and coming up with strategies for late round “steals” so let’s even out the playing field just a bit and reward those who do their homework.
QB scoring should be relatively to scale with the rest of the positions. Giving QB's 6 points per TD pass and 1 point for every 20 yards makes the QB position arbitrary (It’s automatic points). Automatic points takes no strategy and isn’t fun.  This is one of the main reasons why QB’s are rarely drafted in the first round despite them scoring the most points for your team.  So why do so many people select RB’s first, when they score fewer points than a QB?  There is a very small gap between the 5th highest scoring QB and the 12th highest scoring QB. (We will elaborate on our Podcast).

Yes, QB’s are the most important position in football, and they should score the most points, but let’s tighten up the scoring gap a little.

We recommend:  that QB’s get 4 points per touchdown, but only -1 point per interception. They should also get 1 point for every 25 yards passing instead of 1 point for every 20 yards.

PPR Debate:
Adding Points per reception brings value to your teams WR's, TE, and RB's. It means that if you didn't get to draft in the first few spots, there is still value to be had in the back-end of the round. This also adds the challenge of deciding on who to draft in the 2nd round, do you want Alfred Morris or Darren Sproles?

Adding this simple scoring change should impact your league in a more competitive and challenge way. With using a half-of-point-per-reception you are able to find value in those later rounds like Lerod-Stephens-Howling- TheThird - I-Just-Wanted-To-Use-More-Hyphens.

We recommend:  Using a decimal scoring system and setting it to .5 Points per Reception.

So why not make it 1 PPR? Glad you asked.  With 1 PPR you have guys like Joique Bell (or Insert any Lions RB) scoring more points than Alfred Morris and Steven Ridley; and that is inexcusable and unjustifiable and ridiculous.  When you have guys getting 1 point for a failed screen that gains 0 to negative yards, you should not be rewarded with a full point. 5 PPR is the happy-medium.
